The only thing they seem to be capable of making decently is electronics, probably because at this point almost all consumer electronics are from china or taiwan, occasionally Japan if it's something nice. I would never trust major building materials from china but with the Walmart mentality this nation has developed...

The Chinese board was also cheaper. One homeowner told AP he saved $1,000 by building his house with it instead of a domestic product.
Considering the cost of building a house, $1,000 is nothing. For that little difference quality US sheetrock could have been purchased instead. When I worked for my parents company in construction almost every job used the same rock, I forget the brand but they all said made in the USA on them. Of course we only did commercial/industrial, never residential.

Screw China and their cheap crap.
I try my best to buy stuff made in the US or Canada.
Obviously, there are products I simply have to buy that are made in China. But, it's only when domestic, or better foreign products are not available.
Our own greed and corner-cutting is killing us.

I buy almost everything USA, when I can. However, I don't know if it's the economy, but personally I have noticed that things made in USA are going DOWN in quality. To make it worse, Chinese built things seem to be IMPROVING on quality (albeit very slowly and not very widespread.)
For example, I just bought new seals for my transmission and transfer case a few weeks ago. $13 bucks for the Federal-Mogul (national) seals, verses $5 bucks a piece for the Master Pro seals. I asked to see them both. Upon looking at the Nationals, I saw they were made in USA still while Master Pro were made in China. However, the quality of the Master Pro seemed several times better than the Nationals. So of course for less than half the price, I opted for the Master Pros.
