whos better? all depends on what your looking for the truck to do. I liked the Dakota over the ram for my useage. hauling our boat and family without being too tall. Size wise? internal I believe is close to the same. Doors are same exact size of a ram. That is why the door guards are the same for the dakota and ram. This is a personal preference. Like pepsi or coke, boxers or briefs, top or bottom....

If you are looking at performance, I would go with a dak. Terms of use ability, look at a ram.
Looking at who is quicker, I would have to assume that if a dak and a ram were paired up against each other in a race with the same motor, the dak would win. Just because of the power to weight difference.
Newer daks have little aftermarket options, while the newer rams are loaded with different ideas and uses.
It's a personal opinion, and there is absolutely no right or wrong answer.
As my sig denotes, we have both, a 3rd Gen ram and 2nd gen dakota.
The 2nd gen dakotas are by far the best looking of the group, while the 4th gen ram absolutely looks like it's hungry.
Obviously, the power to weight ratio gives the performance win to the Dakota. Honestly, the rams have no reason to have a V6 option.
If I want a mudding truck, i'll get a second gen ram. They are absolute tanks.
The reason I would not get a dakota, is because after the 10th or 12th ball joint change, you'd have the cost of a ram. Unless you go and put aftermarket A-arms on or something right off the bat.
If I'm going to go racing, It's a lowered dakota hands down. They don't weight alot, but the CoG is still plenty high. Put in a rear sway bar and lower it 2 or 3" (or airbag it), and should be plenty good.
Both the dakota and ram can tow when properly equipped and loaded, with a trailer brake controller. Yes, the ram can obviously haul more, but the dakota, with a weight distributing hitch or helper springs, can still haul it's fair share. Obviously for a 5th wheel or gooseneck, there's no option.
