You need to throw the BS flag. Plain and simple. The 231 HD TC was not electronic. It had a vacuum system, and that was about as high tech as it got.
If you're throwing the BS flag, then explain how that Dodge had to be replaced by my uncle's Chevy towing a trailer that day through the mud because he had no 4wd. Later that day, they looked underneath and discovered a wire was pulled out from under the vehicle. Once the wire was reattached, the 4wd was working again. And I do know that it was in fact not any form of linkage, but a wire that was pulled out when driving through the weeds.
I myself had the same thought back then that a floor shifter was truly manual, but was informed that they still suck because it is connected electronically and not through a linkage.
