Here is a race closer to my own taste, I havent gotten my GN to where I want it yet, but this is a good comparison for me to shoot for... looks like in this race of 2 GN's vs. the 1 Viper, the GN with the guy in the backseat with the camera gets the jump on the GTS and as it starts to pull away the driver of the GTS realizes why GN's had the title of the worlds quickest production car between 1984 to 1987. Pretty good for a V6 full-size sedan with at least 150 Hp(GNX's had almost 300 Hp, reg GN's had about 255 Hp) less and yet still weighed more than a Viper.
The reason why the GN's were cancelled were simply put, they were the fastest car GM built and Chevy didnt like the fact that this V6 sedan was spanking their Vette.
That said, I would give my left nut to have a mint condition GNX model. Those things are simply the best cars built for the money. There really wasnt a factory car produced that could touch that. Saying that, they still use the same engine design in most the current GM cars. The only major difference is most of the cars using this engine are FWD now.
Grand Nationals are sick, just as good looking as they are performing. I love to see them with their black rims and oooohhh do I love to hear that turbo! What did they go for new?
Something like 10-13K...brand spankin new.......0-60 in like 5-6 sec range.....and 1/4 mile in like 13.5 seconds..... really really fast production car......
My times are NOT exact, but very close....
In its day, it was the SRT-4 of the streets.....ate anything and everything on the street...even some of the modified cars..and yes...this car demolished alot of mopars too....
The motor hit its 360 lb-ft torque peak at a mind-blowing 3000 RPMs and with 276 horses on tap, the 3,800 pound bruiser rang up consistent 13.4 quarter-mile times at 103 mph. It did 0-60 in the mid 5's.
Power numbers for a 1987 Grand National Buick Regal GNX model.
Btw, to correct my earlier post, the GNX sold for around 25-29K....as they were a limited model run (only 547 were ever produced).
The normal Grand Nationals still were 13-19K.......sorry for the misinformation [8D]
ChallengerLover, they are Buick Regals....and they do resemble the Monte Carlo's and the Miradas...however....neither of those cars could touch the Grand National
I dont like that GNX illustration...its looks like a chopped 4dr Regal with a bodykit. I will admit however I'm impressed with the lines and glad to see they are bringing it back.
