staying away from Japanese cars for reliability and quality issues....
I would say the the neon are the best
The Neon has a reliability rating of 3, which is average, and Japanese cars are the most reliable cars out there period. How many Fords have you seen getting 160,000 miles? Not many
The BMW is definately top 5, but it doesn't appear to be on cars.com anymore. I've got to call about it. How are the maintenance costs on them Patrick? My parents keep ranting about, "oh they're so expensive to maintain. Oh, they're so unreliable. Oh they need special people to work on them" lol

any of these, i personally would go with the sentra, that engine alone can hold a 75shot stock, an along with the teg, Vtec are easy to come by, an BMW is a maybe, i own'd a 325i - is an replacement parts are high but u can drive the hell outta them, jetta's cause their body style is awesome, altima is clean along with the lexus, u can get some serious power out of them, TL could fit a H22 in it
My good friend is the head of the service department for a Honda dealer, and he told me NEVER buy a Honda. They break like crazy , and the service department loses more money than they make.He wont even own a Honda!..... Another friend bought a brand new Honda Civic a few years ago, and it conatantly breaks down weekly.....My dad had a 318 Chrysler 5th Ave (1986 he bought it new) and he got over 300,000 miles without ever a major problem....(just a battery, new brakes here in there and minor. rare stuff like that)..he sold it to some guy in the neighborhood years ago, and I still see the guy driving around with it to this day![8D]
Theres my top five picks...as for reliability of a domestic vs. import...i'm pretty sure it goes both ways. Example, my dad drove a 87 Toyota Corolla till it had over 250k on it, sold it in Cali for $1,000...my mom had an old 90-something Mercury Cougar with 325k before it finally died. I have a friend who owns a 92 Civic hatch with 130k and he's had to replace the tranny, clutch, head gasket, and then the ominous Honda-rust that develops under the paint on nearly all Honda's from the 80's till the early 21st century models. I also have a friend with a late 80's early 90's model Ford Escort with 560k with original engine, tranny, and most of the major componenets. Then theres a kid with a 95 Honda with 210k and all he's had to do is replace the exhaust. So whats the moral of this story? Well first of all, your going to have to fix things, replace things, no matter who made the car, regardless of whether its import or domestic. Its just that you hear less about imports breaking down, and more on how domestics suck in every way.
I guess it comes down to drive what you like...Being used anything can go wrong at any time. I still say the Bimmer will be a blast to drive..slap some spinning wheels on dat mofo and yer good to go...j/k
