Default 2000-2005 Dodge Neon (non-SRT)

Done by:
LowSlowNeon

Performed on:
2003 Dodge Neon SXT with the 2.0L engine and Manual Transmission

Items needed:
-13mm wrench or socket
-Ramps/jack stands/lift
-Container to catch oil
-5 quarts of oil of your choice (5w-30 is recommended in owners manual)
-Oil filter
-Oil filter wrench (optional)
-Funnel
-A few rags

1. Run engine until achieving normal operating temperature.
2. Lift vehicle off the ground, either by jack stands, driving it up on ramps, or lifting it with a hoist.
3. Remove oil fill cap in engine bay.
4. Place a suitable oil collecting container under the drain plug.
5. Remove oil pan drain plug using 13mm wrench or socket and allow oil to drain into container. Check the drain plug to make sure the threads aren’t stripped and the little gasket on the plug is still okay. If it’s not get replace the drain plug.
6. Remove oil filter. You may need an oil filter removing tool to get it off. If you do need one put the wrench strap close to the base of the filter and turn counterclockwise. Clean and check the filter mounting surface. It must be smooth and free of debris.
7. Install and tighten drain plug to 20 ft. lbs.
8. Install new oil filter. I usually fill new filter with oil until its maybe half full. Make sure to lubricate the gasket on the top of the filter. Screw filter on until the gasket contacts the base. Tighten to 8ft lbs.
9. Fill crankcase with proper amount of oil. It will take approximately 4.5 quarts of oil.
10. Install oil fill cap
11. Start engine and inspect for leaks
12. Stop engine and check oil level. Add some oil if necessary.
