Default Consumer Reports: Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is the Top Truck

According to Automotive News, "Consumer Reports says the hot-selling Ram 1500 EcoDiesel outscored competitors from Ford, General Motors, Toyota and Nissan to claim the magazine’s top spot among full-size light-duty pickups." Consumer Reports gave the oil-burner a score of 82 on its road test. A gas-powered 1500 evaluated earlier racked up one less point.

Default How is the EcoDiesel?

Has anyone driven, or known anyone who has driven/bought the ecodiesel 1500? I was reading the review of the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel on the Hoffman Dodge page. 28 MPG highway? Is that for real!?

I test drove one, a black 4x4 and actually went to buy it. Loved the way it drove and the Laramie package was unbelievable but the dealer wouldn't budge off sticker.

I ended up buying a 2500 Cummins after getting over $10k off sticker. The $57,000 CTD ended up costing just a smidge more than the $45,000 ED...

I have one...crew cab 4X4 with a 3.55 rear end. The mileage is amazing. I am getting every bit of 28 MPG. In my last 600 miles I am averaging 29.5 MPG. Two lane roads, hills, and some rural city driving. I cannot say how impressed I am with this truck so far.

Yachtsman1304, I hope you render a January update on cold weather starting in Michigan. Sounds great so far. K.

I certainly will. Also, during the VERY brief summer we did have, I was able to get 22-25 MPG towing a 5000 lb boat and trailer.

That's what I was interested in seeing, if the relatively small displacement diesel kept good gas mileage while towing like the bigger ones do.

My old Hemi would average about 16 mpg on the highway (which I didn't think was bad at all for a lifted truck weighing in at close to 7000 lbs. on 35" tires) but would average more like 11.5 towing only about 3500 lbs. of bass boat and gear and the 4.7 in my old Grand Cherokee dipped from about 18 mpg to more like 10...

Default Yup gets great mileage

We average 25-26 when not towing, with approx 50% rural hilly driving and 50% freeway and then 14-16 while towing.

Our old privately owned Dodge dealer sold out to a new Dodge dealership group and I'm heading in tomorrow about my current Cummins truck. While there, I intend to ask again about bringing in a 2014 Eco-diesel for a test drive. K.

HIi, I just bought one to and I was wondering at what speed are you doing when getting that kind of mileage. I put on a S & B fresh air intake and mine is doing a lot better I have a 2015 big horn. but I'm not getting that kind of mileage, I'm not complaining I'm happy with what I'm getting I used to own a 06 Cummings.
