Ramcharger, Trailduster & Power Wagon Grrrr!! Tough Trucks! The Dodge Ramcharger and Plymouth Trailduster were full size SUV's that had good looks and brute strength. The Dodge Power Wagon was comparable to them in toughness, but came in pickup truck form only.

Default play in sterring

I had such loose play in my sterring it was like steering a sailboat. found out it was the steering coupler. had it replaced and it's perfect now. trouble is finding parts for an 85 RC is getting tougher.

I had the same issue, only thing is that the coupler was bad as well. I found a good one in a junk yard off of a 3/4 ton truck. My kit was about $16 when I got it from dodge. I still had a little play after the rebuild, I think I will add a steering stabalizer next. If that don't work, I have another gear-box.

Borgeson in my 79. Fixs all that ails you.
My bell joint fell apart on the hey at 70mph. $1 pick a part part later it was fixed. Then bought a Borgeson and never looked back

i finally got tired of the play in my 93' ramcharger and it was coming from the coupler. instead of buying the borg, i went to the junkyard, and found 2 steering shafts off off 90s jeeps, they had the u-joint couplers from the factory. bought the 2 of them, chopped the ends off that i needed, only one end of the shaft is the correct size for the box. then i chopped the ends off the original ramcharger shaft, and took the rag joint and all that off. weled the new u-joint ends onto the ramcharger shaft. then u must grind down the indexing spline inside the couplers cuz its to big, but once u get it shaved down then you just tap the new shaft on and tighten it down with the bolts that go through the couplers. paid a total of 15 dollars i think, been good ever since.

I have no idea of weather it's an easy fix...but I do know that the alignment will affect how it moves on the road.

Its a 83...good change steering gear box is worn. If you want it done right. Change the whole assy. Rag joint, steering shaft (Borgeson all the way) and new steering gear box. (I went with Red Head)
It was a PITA but now my 91 RC steers and drives down the road like a brand new truck. WELL worth it in the end. Good luck!
