Ramcharger, Trailduster & Power Wagon Grrrr!! Tough Trucks! The Dodge Ramcharger and Plymouth Trailduster were full size SUV's that had good looks and brute strength. The Dodge Power Wagon was comparable to them in toughness, but came in pickup truck form only.

Exclamation 90 Ramcharger 318 valve guides?

hey there, i have a 90 Ramcharger LE 150 4x4 and i have what it looks to me burnt oil coming out of my exhaust when i start it up. It sometimes burns oil when it is idling, then it goes away. I believe it is bad valve guides or pistons rings...i hope. I dont know a lot about engines, so any input on my situation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jeff

Have you done a compression test? I would tend to think you are correct, but that's a good place to start. Although if it were the rings, you'd get blow-by in the crankcase. When it's running, take out your dipstick and feel if there's any air blowing out. You can also take off the oill fill cap on the valve cover, but unless you can differentiate the oil slapping up from the valves from the pressure of lost compression, it may only confuse you.

Default smoking

How many miles on the engine? Could be just the guide seals gone bad they will cause smoke on start up, small block mopars are notorious for it. If its seals you can at least do the repair without tearing down the motor..........

i have 113000 miles on the odometer, but it quit working yesterday. the burnt oil comes out thick one day, then little puffs the next. i'm thinkin of just saying screw it and rebuild the engine while i have the heads off anyways. thank for your input, greatly appreciated.
