Any way to try and get in there with some needle nose pliers or a pick to try and gently pry the connectors "out" a bit to make the space smaller? I've seen people have bent the fuse legs (?)...

I've changed the belts on mine without lifting the engine or doing anything crazy (I'm assuming you are trying to change the belts). A belt tensioner tool helps a lot too, but it can be done rather...

You can have your battery load tested for free at a parts store, then you'll know for sure if the battery is on it's way out or not. It certainly wouldn't hurt to go over the six or so engine...
