Was there not such a wire? One of the two wires coming off of the positive side of the battery goes directly to the starter from the factory. Any corrosion issues on the power wires, engine grounds...

You can use any 2nd Gen Neon manual transmission. As far as "best gear ratios," are you looking for performance ratios, MPG ratios (final drive) or both?

That's an O2 sensor. It's kind of a pain to see, but you can reach it by going over the top of the engine. It's lined up with cylinder #4 IIRC.

Any way to try and get in there with some needle nose pliers or a pick to try and gently pry the connectors "out" a bit to make the space smaller? I've seen people have bent the fuse legs (?)...
