Default I.O.D. (Ignition Off Drain) Fuse

This is sort of a DIY fix it thing.

I recently was messing with my LEDs in my dome light cause they lost connection, so i was trying to fix it, and crossed the terminals on accident (I was tipsy at the time so it probly wasnt a good idea to begin with.) But when it happend it sparked, and my radio quit working, dome light quit working, and my cargo light quit working.

So I started with what was important to me, fixing the radio.
I got a test light, turned the ignition on, and checked every fuse, inside the cab, and under the hood, all tested fuses were good. So i went to the radio, put a test light on the acc(red) wire with the ignition on, and had power, put a test light on the constant(yellow) wire, and nothing.

At first i tried to check the I.O.D fuse, but i couldnt figure out how to pull the fuse out, so i just passed on by it.

I mustve have 3 hours looking in the repair manual for a wiring diagram of the radio, and the lights, but nothing. No mention of what the I.O.D fuse was either.

So being baffled as i was I tried another radio, and nothing.

So then i called my high school shop teacher and told him what happend, and what wasn't working, and what i did, and in a 5 minute phone call, he fixed what i was trying to fix for 4-5 hours now.
He simply said to check the I.O.D fuse in the black carrier, and he also told me how to get it out, and sure enough it was blown. Then he also told me that it was called the ignition off drain fuse. and thats when it made sence why it blew when the terminals were crossed.
I replaced the fuse, and everything worked again.

To open the carrier you have to pull it out about 1/4" and it wont pull out any farther. Now you take a small screwdriver, or a knife, and pry the tabs on the right side of the carrier up, and the top will open up, and you can pull the fuse out.

Hopefully this will help someone else out with the same problem.

The I.O.D fuse is located in the cab, in positon #17 in the fuse box.

Heres a pic of the 10A I.O.D. Fuse. Its the black carrier on the left.

Thank you guys. i drive a 2008 dodge caliber i installed an after market stereo today lost power to my dome lights when the door is open rear wipers and stereo dont work. now knowing what a I.O.D is i can now replace the fuses.

In my fuse box i have the yellow clips but under them are 2 other fuses. so i just lift as far as they go open top of clip and replace the fuse? if this is so you may have helped me ouut!

ya, thats pretty much all there is to it. pull em out as far as they will go, then pop the clip open, and repace the fuse

I'm having a problem with this fuse also. However, when I put in a new one it blows instantly. I'm going to check to see if it's the aftermarket stereo first. If not, anything else that's a likely possibility? It seems like finding the culprit is going to be like finding a needle in a haystack.
