Default center console/seat swap question

My truck has the center jumpseat. I'd like to switch to a standard console.

I assume that they use the same mounting holes in the floor? Do the seats have to come out?

When I did the swap on mine, I had to take the seats out. The brackets that hold the center part of the bench seat in place are riveted to the frame of the buckets on each side.

IIRC, the center section is bolted to the brackets so you can unbolt and separate the buckets from the center bench, but to remove the brackets from the bucket seat frames, you have to cut them off or drill out the rivets. The brackets will get in the way of a center console, so they have to come off.

That probably sounds as clear as mud, but once you remove the bench and flip it on it's back, you will see what I mean.

The holes should already be in the floor for the center console.. Mine came with a bench seat and had the holes already there for the console bolts. They just filled them with body seam sealant.

Just to clarify, I am talking about the 40-20-40 seats like this one

Yes that's what I have. Sounds not fun, but I need a place for the delay box and switch panel. Did you just get a console from a durango or what?

Yeah, I found a console in good shape from an 01 Durango. It fit perfect.

It's not that big of a deal really, 8 bolts, 4 on each seat, and the bench will slide out. Then 4 bolts on the underside of the center piece to separate the buckets.

I used a 4 inch cutoff wheel and cut the brackets off. I didn't plan on ever reinstalling the bench part so there was no reason to take the brackets off whole.

I assume the torx bolts for the seats are the same? I guess i'll find out what size they are and go junkyard diving. I need to find a hood, too.

Mine had regular hex bolts. The front bolts were shorter and smaller than the rear ones.

I'll have to go look, could have sworn they were something huge like T50.

Thanks for the info. I have no use for the jump seat and converting to a console would be way more beneficial. I'll add this to my growing list of possible mods/upgrades.

Tony, does the durango console come with the floor mounted cupholder? I want to keep the center floor console I have now, and only change the seat/console. But all the photos look like the console and floor cupholders are one piece?

There are 3 cup holders in the console and it's all one piece. I dont use the 2 forward ones for open drinks though, they aren't tall enough and drinks tend to fall out when going around corners. The rear-most cup holder is awesome though.
