Transmission fluid
After changing the transmission fluid an filter what is the exact amount to replace in a 02 Dakota 2wd 3.9 ?
Is it 5 qts?
Also is there anything in particular to do once warning it up before checking fluid besides shifting gears an checking for leaks?
The old was a bit darker than new, still reddish , but not brown is that ok to mix new with?

From the fluid capacities sticky thread...

Filter is a small amount. You can fill it before you install it. I'd put in exactly what I drain out, run through all the gears and check level. Then, drive to hot and check level one more time. Being off by a small amount initially won't do any harm. Although, you don't want to add too much and have to drop the pan again, unless you've installed a drain plug like me.

I just got done draining the trans pan and putting a new gasket on my Dodge Dakota 2000 SLT 3.9L, and it took me 6 Quarts to fill it, everywhere I looked it said it should only take like 4.5 quarts, it is not leaking and it has been running fine, my ? is, Why did it take so many Quarts? anyone!
