? Rumblings have been heard during recent months about the Big 12 testing the waters on a potential "challenge series" for football. It would be tailored along the lines of the one developed for Pac-10 basketball.
The idea would be to match most, if not all, 12 teams from the conference against a similarly configured conference like the ACC or SEC.
Stoops has championed the idea of such a series several times in recent seasons. And Leach said that he was intrigued by the concept, although he hasn't heard anything specific about it.
"I think it sounds like a pretty good idea," Leach said. "The key thing would be to involve everybody."
I'm all for it. One game a year is fine with the Gators. Will just make the usually top 10 schedule slightly harder. (It's easy for a change, this year.)
I one day hope to see...
vs Miami, vs FSU, vs OU/Tex/TT, vs SEC

Uh, I think that question should be reversed.

The SEC leads the Big 12 in all-time head-to-head match-ups with a 20-17-0 (.541) record.
Over the past 11 years ('98 -'08) the SEC holds a 20-17-0 (.541) advantage.
Against the Big 12's predecessor (the Big Eight) the SEC had a 43-43-6 (.500) record.
The above numbers are based on "historical conference affiliation." We think that's the best way to look at it. But, here are the SEC vs Big 12 football numbers if based on "current conference affiliation: 279-233-19 (.543) -- slightly better for the SEC.
Of course the BIG story in the SEC vs Big 12 football rivalry was the match-up in the 2008-2009 National Championship game. Florida beat Oklahoma in the game to win last year's College Football BCS Championship.
This probably won't work because Florida will never travel that far for an OOC game and *Texas will never schedule an OOC game with a team from a BCS conference.
A&M plays Arkansas this year and yes Oklahoma has a home and home with Lsu. OU also has Miami, Fsu, ND, Tenn., and Ohio St. scheduled the next few years.
Funny thing about Florida traveling... Most... and when I say most, I really mean most... Most Florida fans want Florida and Southern Cal to be a yearly thing.

With regards to Florida, you are right...they don't leave Florida for quality OOC games, as they almost always schedule FSU and Miami. In the last 5 years, the only teams they've faced that werent those 2 are crappy schools.
However, your absolutely wrong about Texas..
2004 - at Arkansas - W 22-20
2005 - at Ohio State - W 25-22 (National Champ)
2006 - Ohio State - L 24-7
2008 - Arkansas - W 52-10
4 games out of conference against BCS teams...
Almost ALL teams in the BCS conferences schedule one school that is generally a big name out of conference school. In Texas's defense, there really is only a select few quality opponents outside of their conference that are remotely close to Texas (LSU, Arkansas, Tennessee) as the rest are far out on the West Coast or East Coast...
Florida just lucks out that they have the Hurricanes and Seminoles in the same state as them, as that's 3 of the best football colleges in the US....

I would PAY to see that happen...I'm so sick of the Pathetic-10 giving a free pass for USC.....same goes with the Chump-10 here in the Midwest...
Yeah, the thing about Florida playing Miami every few years and FSU every year... is that that they both used to be top 10-20 schools every year. I'm sure they will be back to their old glory soon as well. FSU is ranked in the top 20 this year in most polls.
People make all these complaints about Florida never playing big time OOC and/or out of state games and the thing is... the Florida's schedule is one of the best every single year. Playing FSU, Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn, Alabama and LSU every year, (these teams are usually good)... guarantees a tough schedule... usually. Then there's the SEC teams that are sometimes great. Which is every other team except for Vandy and Miss State.
