I saw Oklahoma punch, get late hits, twist Percy's leg to re-injure him. No examples? Yeah, right. It was clear as day to every one who wasn't from Oklahoma.

Georgia's Ealey says Spikes shouldn't be suspended
By CHARLES ODUM

ATHENS, Ga. A most unlikely person came to the defense of Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes, who was suspended for half a game for apparently trying to gouge the eyes of Georgia running back Washaun Ealey

Ealey said Tuesday he doesn't believe Spikes should have been suspended.

In fact, Ealey seemed surprised the play from Saturday's game drew so much attention.

Florida coach Urban Meyer on Monday suspended Spikes for the first half of this week's game against Vanderbilt after the defensive captain stuck his hand in Ealey's helmet and appeared to try to stick his fingers in Ealey's eyes.

Ealey says he doesn't agree with those who have said the suspension was not stiff enough.

"That really didn't matter to me," Ealey said of the suspension. "That's their decision. He shouldn't, I think, get suspended at all. We were just out there playing football."

Ealey said he had his eyes closed when Spikes stuck his hand in his helmet and he wasn't hurt.

"He really didn't gouge my eyes," Ealey said. "He really didn't get a chance to get close to my eyes."

The freshman said he believes similar incidents happen all the time.

"I'm pretty sure it goes on back and forth," he said. "We probably do it and other teams do too. It's all football. We're just out there trying to have fun."

Top-ranked Florida beat Georgia 41-17. The Bulldogs play Tennessee Tech on Saturday.

On Monday, Spikes issued an apology.

"I accept responsibility for my actions and I accept the consequences of my actions," Spikes said. "I would like to apologize to my team and the coaching staff and Washaun Ealey. Football is a very physical and emotional game, but there is no excuse for my actions."

The Southeastern Conference issued a statement on Monday saying it reviewed and accepted the discipline handed down by Florida.

Meyer said he believed Spikes retaliated after getting his helmet ripped off and eye poked earlier in the game.

Georgia coach Mark Richt said Spikes' "helmet went flying off ... and there was one time he got hit with his helmet off."

"It was totally unintentional," Richt said. "They were totally just playing ball. That might have got him bent out of shape. I don't know about all of that."

Ealey carried 17 times for 70 yards against the Gators.

"It was just a lot of emotion in the game," he said. "We were out there fighting. It was a big rivalry game. Everybody was just out there talking trash back and forth. ... We were just out there playing football and having fun."

Notes: Richt said Caleb King will start over Ealey at tailback in Saturday's game against Tennessee Tech. Richt said King has the edge in pass-blocking but said Ealey "will continue to play." Ealey has started the last two games. ... Richt said he hopes top receiver A.J. Green, who will miss this week's game with a pulmonary contusion, can return to play against Auburn on Nov. 14.

I would love to go with Ealey's side on this, because hey, if he sees it as something expected, then I am all for it.

But I think the bigger problem here is that if you allow it, then it opens the door for other things, then where does it stop? I've said it before and I'll say it again... the biggest problem with Spikes isn't the fact that he did what he did, the problem is that a television camera happened to catch it in action.

Aside from that, we all know what a REAL football game is really like. These days, television crews are directed to avoid showing these conflicts when they can, and the audio is always delayed and blocked out or overlayed for the censors so the viewers at home can't hear all the sh** talking going on. But yeah, any good football game has plenty of dirty stuff going on, on and off the field.

It happens all the time, you just better hope that you aren't the poor sucker who actually gets caught doing it, because once it's out in the media, you will pay the price. Example: dogfighting, cockfighting, etc, happen every second of every day in this country. But who is the last person you know of to take a hit on it besides Michael Vick? Exactly... get caught in the spotlight with it, and they will make an example out of you compared to the rest.

I'd stick my fingers is a Dawgs eye if I had the chance.

Flash back...

Quote:
The Sooners did their best to make sure he wasn't. Boos showered the field early in the fourth quarter after a replay was shown revealing that Sooners safety Nic Harris yanked on Harvin's leg after tackling him. Harvin had just run 52 yards on one play and 12 on the next. Clearly, frustration was setting in.

Gators fans held their breath during the injury timeout only to see Harvin pop up and jog off the field.

"Oh yeah," Harvin said. "I had to let him know that he tried to hurt me but it didn't work."

it is getting to be almost no fun watching OU lose. Hard to believe, but i almost feel sorry for them. (almost) that game against Nebraska last night has to rank up there in the top 10 all time snoozer games of all time. It was not a matter of who wanted to win, it was who could stay awake long enough to finish the game.

Come on Sooners, it is no fun to hate you when you suck so bad.

Wow, LSU lost last night and moved UP in the BCS poll and stayed at #9 in the AP.

Yes, watching OU and Nebraska play was like watching a true Sec game all the way.

OU is playing for the future at this point. They have 3 tough games left and imo maybe best if they don't go to a bowl this year. I'd be okay with that so they will be hungry next year.

Anyone else think Florida/Alabama will be the real NC game? I pick Florida to win that one 9-3.

What two SEC teams would possibly stink up a stadium as bad as Nebraska/OU? If you would have said southland or the patriot league i might agree, but the SEC?

here are some eye opening numbers for you, 20 combined penalties for 168 yards
6 combined turn overs (5 by OU 1 by neb)
505 combined yards of offense
6 for 32 combined third down conversions (Neb only had 1)

that game was poorly played by both teams on both sides of the ball.

Florida 27
Bama 13

Oklahoma and Nebraska both have a top 10 defense and both dominated the game. Gerald McCoy and Suh are top 5 picks while Crick and Brian Jackson are 1st rounders.

This is what gets me is when Big XII schools play a game like it's sloppy and hard to watch and when the Sec plays the same type game it's because all the athletes and great defense. Give me a break.
