I did a Youtube search for it when I read about it and happened to find another video of him when he was in college doing the same thing, only he did not rip his head open.
He was lined up in a wildcat formation on a 4th down. Once snapped, he had a choice to either run it to gain the couple yards for the 1st down, or pooch punt it. Anyway, he got stuck punting it rugby style and it went like 12 yds!!!!! He was so upset that when he made it over to the sideline, he did the same thing with his helmet... LOL!!!!
