Default beaten by a sleeper...

i was in the demon and came up behind a buick regal...99-02 or so. it had one of those terrible "upturns" dual outlet mufflers wedged into the stock exhaust cutout space in the bumper and it had some cheap looking aluminum wheels with raised white letters...as i pulled next to him, i saw that he had a gauge pillar with some digital gauges and he was very aware of my being there...so he edged up to the line a bit and i did the same. around that point i noticed that behind his cheap looking wheels, had huge slotted drilled rotors and corvette calipers. so maybe this domestic ricer got a good deal on some brakes...right?

well, the light turned green, and even with my terrible street tires spinning a ton, i pulled out easily on him to probably two car lengths, shifting quickly into second when he came BLOWING around me. i would going around 60, and he passed me like i was parked. i stayed into it until 100 or so, and he was still pulling away from me...i was in complete disbelief. when he passed, i couldnt hear his exhaust, or my exhaust, or anything but blower whine. by the time i caught up to him, i just gave him a thumbs up and shrugged. im aware of the abilities of the blown 3.8s, but this was one of the best sleepers ive seen...it was completely silent at idle and it really hustled. i hope to run into him again at some point and find out what he has done. granted, my car only ran 13.50s, but for a car that looks like he borrowed it from someones great aunt, i was impressed...

I was on the other side of that a couple of days ago. I was stopped at a red light late last Thursday when a guy in an 08 Mustang GT pulled next to me, started reving his engine and chirping his tires. I looked around, no one else on the road but us, late at night, rural area, so I said, what the hell, I'll play.
Light turned green and we left, he spun, i didnt, got two legnths on him right off the bat. then the Nitrous kicked in and i just left him sitting there. I shut down around a hundred, he did the obligitory high speed fly by then he shut down as well.
he followed me for a while flashing his lights at me so I pulled into a circle K and he was shaking his head and blubbering about how a truck should not be able to out run his stang, I just said oh well, poop happens! he could hear the cam, but I didnt tell him about the NOS. As I was leaving the Circle K I did a purge on the Nos, let out a big cloud of gas and eased by him. His eyes were as big as pie plates and his mouth was open wide enough to sitck a spare tire in!

It is evil of me, but I love doing that to people!

Gotta love sleepers, I was telling the youngins' (early to mid 20s) I work with I want to make the 5th Ave a sleeper, and they just looked at me and asked whats a sleeper???
BTW I am putting my first mod on her tomorrow, I'm removing the cats, and smog pump, and putting on a Thrush muffler, and running it out the back. I had to remove the 2in system I made up for it, I thought it was messing up the lean burn system, turns out it was a clogged cat, your legs get a blast of heat when getting out the passenger side. If I remember my camera I'll take some before and after photos.
Then its time to redeem myself, from that embarrassing loss to an Acura.

HAHAHA! Great stories!

Op must have been a Regal GS you were up against. They are low 15 1/4 stock but can use the same mods as Grand Prix GTP's.

I saw a early 2000 Buick Century at Moroso Speedway in Florida a few years ago that was the ultimate sleeper. He pulled up to the staging lanes in a sand colored, non-tinted, and bone stock looking Century. He was up against an 01 LS1 Trans Am. We all were laughing thinking this old guy was going to get spooned!

So the tree is lit and still no sound coming from the Century to let on it's modded. The light goes green and they're off............the Century obliterated the Trans Am with a 12.0 in the 1/4 mile to the Trans Am's 12.9!

The guy did it over and over all night and would not let anyone look under the hood. He wasn't spraying or at least didn't purge at all to let it be known, no turbo spooling, no supercharger whine, no loud exhaust just quiet as hell and fast as lightning!
