My favorites: Auto Pistol: Nighthawk GRP 1911A1 .45 ACP; Revolver: any N Frame S&W, the Model 22-4TR (.45 ACP) probably the most practical for carry for me.

I'd get the S&W MP. I think they have a promotion right now where if you buy any MP model you get 2 free extra magazines? Might not apply to that special order though.

yeah, there is a coupon in the box for the two free mags also...
I'm considering it, I called the club and am going up to look at it on Tuesday afternoon...

For what its worth... we did some random polls on a different site a couple weeks ago, and the S&W ranked relatively low among owners of the gun. It appears to have more reliability problems, when compared to a similar Springfield XD or the Glock. I found the poll and the results to be enlightening, since the website was not geared towards any of those brands specifically, or that style of gun in particular. But in my own personal opinion, I give the nod to the Springer and the Glock. For nothing but range shooting, I recommend the 9mm through .40 S&W chambered XD or Glock, maybe even the .45 if you can find "relatively" cheap ammo.
For other sport or home-defense purposes, I personally recommend the .45 ACP (.45 Auto Combat Pistol) or 10mm Auto (great power) in a Springfield XD, and the Glock comes second. The M&P comes third. Simply put, the XD has a better pull-up than the Glock, better handling and feel, and is just as reliable as the Glock is. Not to mention the XD has a "real" safety on it, unlike the Glock. The M&P comes last, only because the fit and reliability of it seem to be good, but not up to die-hard proven design like the Springer or the Glock. I say this based on numerous field tests, my own personal experience with the weapons, and the overall ratings of people who have owned them and reported on them.
But, personally...
That being said... I am a 1911 guy at heart, always have been, probably always will be . Welcome to the Springfield 1911 GI-.45... my personal "Punisher" series...
Another tip: Always have extra mags... they don't last forever, and require rebuild/replacing for the heavy shooter... and in a defense situation, they could make the difference between night and day. midwayusa.com is great for excellent sales on mags (mine were $13.50 each, new from Springfield). And best of all, just like most things on a 1911, Colt, Springfield, Kimber, Taurus, and many other companies of .45 1911 makers all have interchangeable mags, due to the "universal" design of the weapon.
... Yes, those are the "Punisher" grips... I'm usually not flashy with my guns, but I wanted a nice black grip on my Springer, and these things were begging for me to buy them and install them on it...
Does this look clean to you? lol
.45 ACP or 10mm Auto FTW. And you can NEVER go wrong with a Springfield, IMO.
And Springfield has a deal going on right now I think... Buy a new XD, and get two magazines, barrel brush, holster, case, and a $600 coupon book with it an no extra charge... I've seen them around $450 at a good buy lately.
And on a side-note, the Desert Eagle (the .44 and .50 autoloaders that everyone identifies) are not the best. They are okay for what they are, but more of a novelty-gun than anything. They look great, and are DEFINITELY powerful and intimidating... but I would not recommend them for plinking, range, or home defense. I would recommend the .44 or .50 for hunting up-close, concerning boar or white-tail dear. But that's about it. Other than that, they are not worth the money, unless you want to drop $1500 on a gun just because ya think it looks "tough." Just my opinion.
I decided against the S&W, hell of a deal, but I've wanted the Springfield XD for a while now and don't feel like settling. Maybe when my tax refund gets here, I'll do the Springfield.
I've always liked the Sig's, but their grips don't fit my big hands well...

Believe it or not, my favorite gun to shoot is my Ruger P95 9mm. It shoots great, accurate as hell, ammo is cheap, it is really a fun gun to shoot.
For my cc gun I have a S&W M&P 40c. For what it's worth, I have shot probably 1000 rounds thru it, fmj & jhp, and not a single failure (knock on wood). I read all the reviews, but what it came down to for me was how each gun felt in my hand. I tried the glock, xp, s&w, and ended up with the s&w because it felt the best in my hand. I got the compact version and I carry it with me everyday everywhere I go. It shoots good for me and I feel comfortable with it. To each his own I guess.
