16.7. track was slick and it was my first time! it just raind! But I still wondered why my truck was soooo slow! Being my first time, I braked and gased and then the lights turned green and I just burned there! I could not get traction and I even tried not braking and gassing and it was still slow! How do I want to drag!? Im going again on Wednsday and I am just going to watch becuase I dont think it is worth it till I get my SCT?

Heat the tires in the pit, and slowly pull forward to dry pavement while still burning the tires. That way your rubber is sticky. Stage, then when you have both lights lit, then rev to about 2000 RPM, gauge the light, then release.
as much as i dont like to contradict another moderator...ive made a few thousand quarter mile passes in my day, so i thought that i would comment.
first off, what are your mods? you ran 16.7 at what trap speed? what was your 60 foot time?
our second gen (94 sport, 2wd, rcsb, 360) ran 14.80s, with: TB, headers, no cats, 3" exhaust, mopar PCM, electric fans, underdrive pulleys, cai, 3.92 gears, 26" hoosier quick time pro DRs. minus the tires, pcm, and pulleys, the truck ran mid 15s at a different track.
your truck is bigger, heavier, and 4wd, plus those big truck tires put you at a disadvantage over a smaller tire, as far as your final drive ratio...so depending on what mods you have and what your trap speed was, i can give you a better idea of what its capable of..
also, you do not want to do a burnout with those truck tires if youre having traction issues. when you see people doing big smokey burnouts, they are using tires made to be cooked like that..street tires are not made to be heated up like that, and if you heat them up too much, they become slicker rather than stickier.
exactly how to prep your street tires varies in opinion from one racer to the next, but i would suggest that you pull around through the water (some people will tell you to pull around it...i dont go for that), and at the front edge of the water box, spin the tires hard enough to clean off all of the road debris and water from them. your goal isnt to cook the rubber and turn it into slippery goo, but rather just to clean all of the moisture and crap off of them.
you may want to try taking A LITTLE pressure out of the tires...but unlike race tires, they are not made to be run at very low pressure...so it you normally run something like 35psi, maybe drop them to 30ish, and see if traction improves.
i know that its not realistic for everyone, but anyone interested in drag racing, the absolute best mod you can make...in my opinion better than ANYTHING else, is a good set of sticky tires. until you have good traction, youll likely never reach your best times, and once you have something like a good sticky drag radial, youll find that drag racing a a WHOLE lot more fun...because youre not constantly screwing around, trying to get traction.

Contradict me, hell, man, I'm just an amateur. You should know that. I've been told that if you have a street tread tire, don't do a burnout, just avoid the water box.

if the tires are cleaned off, there isnt much need to do a burnout, but even driving through the pits you can pick up dust, dirt, stones, etc...also, some tracks dont allow people to pull around the waterbox, so thats why i tell people to pull through and just clean the tires off...that way, they arent confused if they get to a track, and they have to go through the water.
results really vary too much from tire to tire and the various situations to say "this is always the way to do it", but with those big truck tires, i think that smoking them is going to make things worse.
also, do you not have lsd?

Nope, I don't have LSD, if you were talking to me. How did you guess?
I did light the tires up when I was at the strip, but that was more for show than anything. Hell, it was a loss anyways since the camera man had head up ass syndrome when I pulled into the box.
Here is the best time slip that she put down. Considering it's stock, and got the fugly 3.21:1 gear ratio, I was happy.
I was number 4090
The car number 4089 was a 2004 1500 Hemi, stock with a chopped exhaust.
I actually did take the hemi down once, but that was only because he lost all traction off the line.
Oh, I do have A/T tires on as well.
