Materials Needed

  • Phillips Screwdriver

Step 1 – Remove the lower dashboard

Before you can access the mechanism that operates the gear selector, you must first make your way behind the lower dash panel. Start by locating and removing the three Phillips screws at the bottom of the dash panel. Then use your hands to pull it off.

Step 2 – Adjust the gear tab

With the lower dash panel removed, locate the white plastic gear selector tab to the right of the steering column. This plastic gear selector uses a metal loop that moves the plastic tab up and down, allowing it to pin point the right gear. Locate this tab and bend it left or right depending on whether the gear selector moves upward to "P" or downward to "1." Most of the time it will need to be moved to the right in order to land on the correct gear. Make sure you bend this tab carefully to avoid damaging it.
