This article applies to the Dodge Ram (2009-present).

If you like the idea of customizing your Dodge Ram, your best bet is to place a specific factory order for the vehicle. This will give you the option of selecting the precise colors and options you want. In some cases, you may even get a better deal by placing a factory order than you would going through the dealership. While there are a lot of perks when it comes to factory orders, one of the biggest potential drawbacks is an extended wait time. It's not uncommon for customers who order a Dodge Ram directly from the factory to wait for several weeks before getting the truck.

Placing a Factory Order

Ordering a truck – or even a part to fix your Ram – through the factory can be a great idea. This is especially true if you're seeking something that's not commonly stocked or sold in dealerships or typical auto part stores. Whether you're customizing your Ram or you just want to make sure that it is fixed with a dependable part straight from the factory, you can expect to wait a bit longer when placing a factory order. Many Ram owners are surprised to find themselves waiting longer than expected, especially if they've placed an order for a new truck. Keep reading for more information regarding the factory order process and some common reasons behind the extended wait times.

Wait Times

Wait times often vary depending on when you place your order and what it is you're ordering. For example, an order for a specific part will generally be processed and shipped faster than if you ordered a new vehicle. Many Ram owners will receive an estimated wait time after placing an order, such as 30 or 60 days. However, these times are subject to change due to a number of factors. While an exact time estimate is generally not available, factory orders are typically processed and sent out as soon as possible to avoid the inconvenience of having to wait for weeks or even months at a time.

Delays, Setbacks, etc.

There are many reasons why a factory order might be delayed. For starters, there are two Dodge truck factories: one is in Mexico and the other is located in Michigan. When an order is placed, the part or truck could come from either plant. In many cases, neither the customer nor the dealer know which factory is dealing with the order. This can make it difficult to get an estimate regarding the delivery time. Another potential reason for an extended wait or a delay is because of high quality standards. This is particularly true with vehicles, which must be inspected to ensure that they meet the designated standards before being sent off.
