This article applies to the Dodge Ram (2009-present).

From time to time, you may want to access what is in the overhead console in your Dodge Ram pickup. Perhaps you would like to do something like hard wiring an aftermarket device. For example, one owner on the forum wanted to hard wire his radar detector into the ignition switch. Or perhaps you need to repair one of the switches or have a bulb issue.

There are no screws that are used to attach the console in place. Because it's plastic and somewhat soft, you might be afraid of breaking the part. The intent of this article is to allay your fears and give the simple steps to remove the console, and eventually put it back. The steps below will make this a very simple operation for you to complete in no time.

Step 1 – Grab hold of the console

This is the end where the map lights are located. Grab from the rear of the console, and gently pull down on it.

Pro Tip

There are spring clips that hold the console in place. As you squeeze the back end of the console and pull down, the clips will release and the console will easily swing down.

Step 2 – Remove from the retainer

The front is held by tabs that slip into the mounting retainer. Sliding the console forward will easily free the console and allow you to remove it completely and simply.
