7 Mopars That Will Satisfy Your Hemi Cravings

In 1951, Chrysler introduced the world to the Hemi, an internal-combustion V8 that made an amazing for the day, face slapping 180 horsepower. Check out the muscled up tasty goodness that Mopar has given forth to us over the years.

1. 1958 Chrysler 300D

If you are ever in the midst of a conversation about the Gen 1 Hemi engines and no one brings up the 392, then you automatically know that these people are fools. This engine was the defacto choice for racers until Gen 2 made its introduction. The Chrysler 300D is on our list because it came with the dual four-barrel version of the 392 and pushed out 375 horsepower. The 1958 was also the swan song of the Gen 1 Hemi with the engine going out with a bang.

2. Dodge Coronet

So what do you do when NASCAR is telling you that in order to compete you need the engine to actually be available in a production car? You develop a street-legal version of your racing Hemi with a lowered compression ratio, milder valve timing, with a tamer intake and exhaust manifolds. The Street Hemi came in the form of 2,792 Coronets, Plymouth Belvederes, and Plymouth Satellites.

3. 1969 Charger Daytona

You have no choice but to include a car on this list that was built with the sole purpose of winning NASCAR races right out the box. The car is known globally for its 23-inch tall rear wing and pointed sheet-metal "nose cone" in place of the front grille. How did it do at the races you ask? It not only won the Talladega 500 in its debut but set a pole speed record at 199 mph. Chrysler wasn't satisfied with being a hair under 200 and returned in a rather secret closed course manner to hit 200 mph and did.

4. 1970 Challenger Convertible

If you're rubbing your eyes in disbelief then you can stop now. The convertible version of the Challenger and Cuda are among the rarest and most sought after of the muscle car era vehicles. Plymouth only sold 14 convertibles in 1970 AND 1971 combined! I don't know how, but the American public turned up their noses at the thought of owning a Plum Crazy 426 Street Hemi engine!

5. 2003 Ram Pickup

After forty years had passed, the Hemi returned in 2003 with the Dodge Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks. Just like the Hemis that came before it, the new Gen IIIs produced one horsepower per cubic inch while meeting emissions and fuel standards of our current times. The 5.7 liter was just a light truck engine but it was the vehicle that wedged the doors open for the Hemi renaissance we currently enjoy now.

6. 2016 392 ScatPack Shaker

The hype about the Hellcat is real with the car pulling at 707 horsepower with the dark magic of a supercharger at work. The scat pack Hemi is a throwback to everything you want from the muscle cars of lore and all wrapped in a brand spanking new package complete with warranty. One look at this Challenger and you know it's the real deal with that shaker hood scoop almost seemingly winking back at you.

7. 1968 Plymouth Barracuda

The unicorn of the Hemi powered vehicles has got to be the 1968 B029 Barracuda Super Stock. The NHRA required that manufacturers again build a vehicle for the street in order to be involved in the races and so 55 were produced. The car was as barely legal as you could get with acid-dipped doors, front fenders and hood made of fiberglass, a race-tuned Hemi along with a Hurst floor shifter! The mighty Barracuda was capable of a searing 10 second quarter time back in 68 and that was off the factory line!
