Default awd to 2wd

i have an awd magnum. i was wondering if i pulled the drive shaft out of the front will it then be 2wd? just like a 4wd truck our cars have a transfercase. i did not see any sensors at the case. i only see sensors at the wheels. has anyone tried this. i appreciate the help.

it doesn't work like that. it is all wheel drive, not 4 wheel drive. the awd transfers 60% power to the rear and 40% power to the front. there are driveshaft speed sensor and wheels speed sensors. if the computer doesn't see sensor A + sensor B = preset C, it will go into limp mode. you won't make it two blocks.

any reason why you would want to remove the front driveshaft (if you could that is)?

I personally love the awd. although i wonder what the difference would be like with 100% going to the rear.

I hate to beat a dead horse, but if these AWD systems are computer monitored, do you think a software adjustment would work to swing the ratios or "turn off" the system? In these days of high fuel prices, I am looking for MPG improvement.
