Default my project is coming together

im swaping out my weak 2.5 5 speed for a 5.9 andnv3500. i went and got my motor and tranny last week. i paid 300 for the motor and 150 for the trans. the motor is out of a 99 ram with 88000 miles and came complete with wireing harness, a/c, alternator, etc. the tranny is out of a 95 dakota with 75000 miles on it. i got the computer at a junk yard of $67. with a 6 month warrenty. hope to have it in in the next month or so. ill post some pics when i get a chance.

i have been talking about doing the swap for about a year but it was always in the back of my mind. i did my homework and spend countless hours reading about what i need from different sites like this one. i was willing to drive up to 200 miles oneway if i could get a good one.i look at junk yards and they all wanted $900+ for the motor and it had no less than 120k miles. same with the trans..no cheaper than $800. i looked on craigslist.org everday for about 6 months with no luck. so i got frustrated and gave up and thought about selling the truck. one night i was bored and decided to take one more look. i found the trans for $150 and was about 25 miles from my house. i knew it was a good deal so i jumped on it and got it the next day. the next day i went and picked it up and brought it home. that night i got back on craigslist.org and found a motor about 30 miles from my house from a different guy. i picked it up the next day. i would say i got lucky.......$450 for motor and trans with less than 90k miles on both.

-batman, im gonna try and sell my 2.5l.....you want it? 115k miles and runs good. lifters tick but runs like a top.

Sounds like a fun swap, I already did the 5.9 in my truck. Currently just sitting because im on vacation. I want to do the nv3500, but rebuild it to handle the 5.9. You will probably tear that tranny apart stock.

I also heard you need a manual transmission computer but iv heard mixed thoughts about that.

But stick is better than auto!

there are two versions of the nv-3500 the regular one that is 300 ft-lb input rating and a heavy duty one that is 340 ft-lb not sure how to tell the difference but heres the site i found this on. http://dodgeram.org/tech/transmission/nv3500_spec.htm
