Default Cruise Control Issues

I recently got a 2002 ram QC and the cruise control doesn't work. I have a chilton's manual, but I'm not much of a mechanic. I can do most a lot, but I will need help with the diagnostics. I did replace the brake switch already to no avail.

When I try to turn on the cruise, the dash light comes on for about 5 seconds and then goes out. I had a guy at work watch a volt meter and he said it would spike 3 times in the 5 second period & then go out. This was at the plug at servo (I think) under the hood.

When I turn the cruise on, it won't even act like it sets. The light comes on, then goes off. After that, I cannot get the light to come back on again unless I turn the truck off.

Could I take the truck to an auto store & get a diagnostic code from their computer?

Places like Autozone can only get "check engine" codes out of the OBDII. Some local mechanics have the computers that can help diagnose more complex things, but it's best to ask them before you bother bringing it in. The stealership should be able to help you, but of course you are going to pay.

Thanks. I have a couple of local mechanics I can check with, otherwise it's going to be $100 for diagnosis at the dealer.

I'm going to get a servo motor for the cruise tomorrow & put it on. I hope it helps, is there any way to diagnose the servo & see if it's bad?
