Default track bar help fast please

Just got a new track bar and trying to torque the nut on the ball joint end, but it starts turning way before I get close to the torque. Any ideas on how to hold it with out missing up the threads??? I tried putting preassure on the joint with a jack, that did not do any good.

not sure what year you have, but I know they made two different tapered sized bolts.

Edit: sorry didn't notice you have the year in your name. the 97 trac-bar should have a 3/4" tapered stud. I know that there was a year or two that had a 5/8" taper.
I would add a few washers to take up the gap, and maybe that will allow it to torque up. if that does, then just take the nut off and remove the washer...
best of luck

I must have the wrong taper too. I did a track bar last weekend on my '98 2500 and although the taper seemed to fit ok, the castle nut went down far enough so that the pin is above the nut, not through it. Also the rubber that keeps the grease in seems awfully "smushed" to me. I would say the socket is messed up, but the old one was locked in there real good.

The auto parts store gave me a Moog DS1413, which seems to be the right number...

I just found out that I was given one for a 1994 DS1256. I have to wait for the new one to come in DS1413. Machine71 I am told that the DS1413 is for 2500 dana 60 1994-1997. I do not know if your 1998 is different or not. That may be your problem.

As I suspected.

I wonder if they had the wrong part in the box in my case. It said DS1413 on it, which should be the 3/4" taper, but I guess it isn't. I already threw the box and old part away too.

Again, crap.
