The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Will Make You Reconsider Minivans

Minivans were once the latest and greatest in family transportation, but like the Sony Walkman, and the portable CD player, they eventually lost their utility and appeal to a newer and cooler contender—the SUV.

When Chrysler announced they had decided to drop the Town & Country and Dodge Caravan nameplate, most of us thought the American minivan was officially dead. With Ford and General Motors already absent from the minivan segment, it was up to Chrysler and Dodge to carry on the ever-hated but somewhat necessary kid-mobile.

Then, on a cold and snowy Detroit morning, Chrysler announced the all-new 2017 Pacifica from an adventure-themed stage at the 2016 North American International Auto Show. While some of us already knew of the vehicle, it’s fair to say that everyone was shocked to see Fiat Chrysler Automobiles launch a minivan in the midst of a dying segment.

Since then, I’ve been anxiously awaiting my chance to take the kiddos on a mini-trip to discover what this all-new contender is all about. Well, I finally had my chance…
