Dodge Challenger R/T

The next time you’re headed to the land of palm trees and mojitos, be on the lookout for this sinister Challenger.

Though few succeed, many of us have at least dreamed about successfully running from the police. But in reality, we would never try such a silly feat. Mostly because, well, it would guarantee us a trip to jail, and we probably wouldn’t last five minutes in there. And if you live in Florida, now you’ve got an extra incentive not to take off if you see blue lights in your rear view mirror. Because apparently, the Florida Highway Patrol now has a shiny new Dodge Challenger R/T in its arsenal.

We know this because the Florida Highway Patrol Jacksonville Twitter page posted this cool pic of the car posing in front of Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine, the oldest and largest masonry fort in the U.S. It’s a cool shot for sure, and a much nicer view than seeing this Challenger in your rear view mirror. It’s also a pretty sweet looking rig with some cool added features.

According to FHP’s post, this Challenger is an R/T, which means it’s fitted with Dodge’s 5.7-liter Hemi V8 producing 372 hp. It’s painted in FHP’s traditional black and tan colors, and features a “lighting package” that’s obviously hidden to make it a little stealthier. Also interesting is the inclusion of “Panasonic 360 degree HD cameras,” which are much better than your average forward-facing dash cams.

Not only is the FHP showing off their cool new rig here, they’re also using it as a warning. “As you can see, we take aggressive driving seriously! Please slow down, buckle up, reduce distractions. We are watching.”

Yes, it appears there’s a new sheriff in town. This Challenger will undoubtedly serve duty on the long, congested stretches of I-95 and I-4, we imagine. So the next time you’re taking your yearly family vacation down to that place with the massive mouse, you might want to drive extra cautiously. Otherwise, you might just get an expensive, up close look at this very cool law enforcement tool!
