Dodge Viper Smashes Into Wall at Woodward Dream Cruise
Crashes rarely ever happen at the Woodward Dream Cruise, and thankfully this Viper didn’t seriously injure anyone.
These days, it sure seems like there’s at least one crash at every single car meet or show. But one event that rarely sees such incidents is the iconic Woodward Dream Cruise. The world’s largest such automotive gathering is more of a slow speed affair these days, with heavy traffic essentially eliminating any chance at tomfoolery. But that didn’t stop a Dodge Viper driver from losing control Saturday night and smashing into the wall of an insurance office, according to The Detroit News.
The Viper was traveling along the 45000 block of Woodward just before 10 p.m. It hit a curb and a parked car first before ultimately landing in the side of the brick building. The passenger in the Viper suffered a broken arm, but thankfully no one else was hurt. This was especially lucky considering the fact that countless spectators typically line the sides of Woodward to check out all the cars riding by. A 16-year-old spectator was almost struck by the Viper, but managed to get out of the way before tragedy happened.
Following the Woodward Dream Cruise after 10pm it stormed along the famed route and this Dodge Viper lost control striking a building. A passenger was treated for a broken arm.

Unfortunately, the parked car, a 1984 Buick Regal, wasn’t so lucky. It apparently suffered a lot of damage, but the owner was more concerned with spectators. “I just want everybody to be safe,” he told The Detroit News. The driver of the Viper suffered only a few scratches. But his female passenger obviously had to be taken to the hospital. Spectators do believe that an evening rain had a lot to do with the crash, but it’s unknown at this time if drugs, alcohol, or speeding had any part in it.
“For the volume of vehicles, accidents are pretty minimal,” said Dream Cruise president Greg Rassel. “The ones we do have are typically fender benders you find in a normal heavy rush hour.” This crash was the only reported incident during this year’s 25th annual event.
It’s sad to see a Viper smashed up like this, but this incident also serves as an important reminder. No matter how badly you want to show off at an event, it’s never a good idea. The driver of this particular Viper is certainly lucky he didn’t seriously injure or kill anyone. So let’s leave the hooning to closed tracks and empty back roads, shall we?
