Drifting a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Until it Breaks: Wicked Wednesday Presented by the All-New Nitto Recon Grappler™ A/T

Hellcat drift

Challenger SRT Hellcat was born to drift. In fact, the only thing that can stop a Hellcat from drifting, is another Hellcat.

It might be hard to believe but the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat has been with us for 6 years now. It has been a dream car ever since it was unleashed on the public. The big Dodge not only sports the iconic Challenger body, but it packs big power. Sending over 700 horsepower to the rear wheels is a great start if you want to drift around corners like a lunatic. The Challenger SRT Hellcat is more than happy to do that all day long. There is almost nothing that can stop it. Except maybe a smaller version of itself. We will get to that a little later.

This week’s “Wicked Wednesday” Presented by Nitto Tire is all about full sends and burning rubber. This video comes to us courtesy of the AriAndCars YouTube channel. Ari sends this car hard until it is taken down by an unlikely opponent.

Car

The Hellcat does not really need an introduction. If you are reading this page and do not know what a Hellcat is, you probably landed here by mistake. However, this particular car is interesting because it could be yours. Check out @FILTHYYWHIPS on Instagram to get all the details. It is not a stock Hellcat either. Obviously, it has a custom wrap. But beyond that, it has an intake, lowering springs, and a front splitter. If you still need some convincing to enter to win, this video might be all the encouragement you need. You may not be able to drive like Ari but you can see what this car is capable of doing. And hey, somebody has to win, right?

Out on the track Ari is not gentle with the Hellcat. He begins to push it for all it is worth and performs some beautiful drifts around the track. The car looks and sounds amazing. Fun tip for you. While you watch the video turn on the closed captions. As the car is drifting around the track the captions say “applause” and “music.” Not sure who created the captions for this video, but we could not agree more. Everything is going great to start, but then Ari and the Hellcat run into a big problem. A big problem that was caused by something very small.

Breakdown

At one point the Hellcat does a burnout over top of an RC car version of the same Hellcat. Shortly thereafter the real Hellcat dies. “Looks like we have broken our first Hellcat.” Says Ari. The car shut off and would not turn on again. It literally just died. But what the heck happened? They try to jump start it back to life but have no luck. The end up having to push it. The Hellcat is a great car to drive but at nearly 4,500 pounds it is not great at all to push.

Pushing the Hellcat

The trouble shooting continued. There was some shredded tire wrapped around the axle and the theory was maybe that was the issue. They remove that mess and disconnect the battery. “We disconnected the negative terminal; we took out all of the wires that were wrapped around the axle. Which could have seized it.” Explains Ari. No dice, the Hellcat is still a dead kitty. They then try changing the fuses, and that is also to no avail. They end up having to call uncle an get it towed to the dealership to resolve the problem. It turns out the problem was very small.

Remember that little RC car that they did a burnout over? Well, if anyone out there is thinking of doing the same thing, don’t. It turns out that the magnet inside the RC car caused the ECU in the real car to reset. That is what killed it on the track. So, the Hellcat was taken down by a mini Hellcat. Hard to believe that such a powerful beast can be taken down by something so small but there you have it. The good news is the Hellcat has been fixed and is now ready for a new owner to get out there and drift all day long. Or until they run over an RC car. Either way, we promise you will have a smile on your face the entire time.

The Video

Even with the little mishap with the RC car, the video is quite entertaining. Any opportunity to watch the Challenger Hellcat perform epic drifts at the hands of someone who has the talent of Ari is not to be missed.
