Stock Demon Hits Track: Drag Day Tuesday Presented by Nitto NT555 G2 Tire

Devoid of any of the crate components, factory-stock 2018 Demon lays down a 10.70 with the lesser power levels.

The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is capable of running a 9.65 quarter mile time with the high performance components included in the Demon Crate, but what does the supercharged Mopar monster run in full, factory-stock form? One owner took his F8 Green Challenger to the track without the crate goodies to see what it would run without the extra power or extended seat time, and the numbers are fairly impressive.

F8 in Action

We don’t know the serial number of this 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, but we know that this F8 Green beauty in the video above is “brand new” and “barely has any miles on it”. We know that it has the stock wheels and tires all around, none of the items from the Demon Crate and the cloth passenger’s seat, but not the rear seat.

F8 Greeen Demon Burnout

Since this car does not have the crate items, it is lacking the race gas PCM that unleashes all 840 horsepower, so this Challenger “only has” 808 horsepower and 717 lb-ft of torque. It is also fairly heavy, with the big drag radial tires up front rather than the skinnies and the added weight of the passenger’s seat, so we don’t expect it to run in the 9s, especially when the owner hasn’t had much practice getting away from the starting line.

However, with no seat time and the lower power rating, this F8 Green Dodge is able to run down the quarter mile in just 10.7 seconds at 129 miles per hour.

The 808-Horsepower Pass

In the video above from the Road Test TV YouTube channel, the factory-stock Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is making a quarter mile run in 78-degree weather with a density altitude of 1,800 feet, so in addition to being down on power, the air is far from ideal. Since there aren’t many miles on the car, the Launch Control system with the TransBrake and Torque Reserve is not available, forcing the driver to launch the car using the brake pedal.

F8 Green Demon Launching

With a fairly gentle launch, the Nitto NT05R drag radial tires that come on the Demon do a fine job of gripping the track as the Challenger rockets down the track. On the top end, even without any of the track gadgets or the extra power, this car still runs a 100% factory-stock time of 10.70 at 129. Crank up your speakers and enjoy!

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
