Mopar Makes it Easy to Put a HEMI Engine into Everything!
The HEMI V8 engine is one of the most storied powerplants of all time, and Mopar’s 2016 SEMA booth showed off the fact that it’s easier than ever now to transplant a 5.7-liter or 6.4-liter HEMI into almost any car, new or old, thanks to its recently announced crate engine kits.
These plug ‘n play kits allow you to swap a 2014-and-up HEMI engine into 1975 or earlier vehicles with just a handful of connections, eliminating the hassle of bypassing or disabling the numerous pre-ignition requirements of modern power distribution systems.
On the show floor were beautiful examples of various applications of the crate engine kit, from a Jeep CJ66 to a 1971 Plymouth ‘Cuda built by Mark Worman, star of Velocity’s Graveyard Carz.
What do you think about a 345 HEMI crate engine wedged into a Wrangler?
Of course, these engine swaps aren’t restricted to just pre-1975 models. Check out this 485-horsepower Durango 392 Shaker concept in B5 Blue:
The Mopar crate HEMI engine kits are available right now via Mopar.com/CrateHEMI or at your local dealership, and retail for $1,795 (both 345 and 392 kits). The 5.7-liter Gen III HEMI engine carries an MSRP of $6,070 while the 6.4-liter variant comes in at $9,335.
To help get the creative juices flowing for your next build, here are some other crate HEMI-powered projects that were on display at Mopar’s SEMA booth.
With the ability to drop a HEMI engine into just about anything, what vehicle will you be Mopar-izing next?
