‘Notorious’ Plymouth Barracuda Is Total Eye Candy at SEMA 2023

Notorious

‘Notorious’ Barracuda was built by Australia-based automotive builder Rides by Kam.

A 1970 Plymouth Barracuda is one of the best-looking cars ever made. But this custom Barracuda known as ‘Notorious’ is an absolute showstopper. The car was built for a client by the Australian custom car builder Rides by Kam. It travelled all the way from down under to be at SEMA 2023. The trip was well worth it as it gave those of us in the U.S. a rare look at this stunning creation.

The Racing Junk team caught up with Rob Zahabi from Rides by Kam to talk through the details of the build. The conversation and vehicle walkaround were captured in a video recently posted on the RacingJunk YouTube channel. In it you can see all of the incredible details and appreciate the tremendous amount of work that went into building this ‘Notorious’ Barracuda. We will get to some of those details in a moment. But that stunning engine under the hood is an R5P7 NASCAR engine that makes about 900 naturally aspirated horsepower. That unit sets the tone for the entire build.

Exterior Details

Wheel

At first glance, you might think that is a nice-looking gray Barracuda. But it is not gray at all. It is a custom PPG paint blend of green and black. Outside in natural light the green really pops. It goes perfectly with the deep-dish gold wheels that the car has. The aggressively low stance is thanks to a Ride Tech air suspension system. The door handles are Kindig-It Design units that really help with the overall smooth appearance of the exterior. Another detail that took a lot of work to complete but pays big dividends in the overall look is the flush fit glass. The front and rear bumpers are factory Barracuda bumpers, but they have been tucked and pushed back.

Interior Details

As striking as the exterior of the car is, the interior may be even more impressive. The same custom black and green paint is used inside, but with a matte finish. The dashboard, the floor and transmission tunnel have all been hand fabricated from steel. It looks incredible against the red leather. The whole look is enhanced with the discrete LED lighting that has been installed throughout.

Engine and Mechanicals

Engine

The star of the show is that NASCAR engine under the hood. Actually, the entire engine bay is a star. Like the interior, the engine bay is all hand-built steel. It is clean enough to eat out of and is also illuminated with LED lighting. That engine is hooked up to a Richmond Super T10 transmission. You are going to need a lesson on how to work the sticks to actually get it in the gear you want. But that just adds to the overall charm of the car. With the overall look and customization of this car, you may think it is just for rolling off and on a trailer. And although it is probably not the best choice for commuting back and forth to work, the car is drivable. It is best on open highways where the car can stretch its legs and just cruise.

Just be ready for the crowd that will gather every time you park it.
