Just take a deep breath. Slowly exhale. Now sit down, because what we’re about to show you is something that truly needs a slow reveal.

First off, this car’s name is Tantrum, and it’s a Charger, as you can see. It has a full carbon fiber body. As you can see. It does not use a Hemi, Viper engine, or any form of Dodge powerplant known in existence. What it does have is a 9.0-liter Mercury Racing, dual-overhead cam V8 engine fed by twin 94mm turbochargers. What this all equates to is a horsepower figure that belies belief.

1,650 raging rampaging horses lurk under the hood of this custom Dodge Charger. 1,650!

The car was built by SpeedKore Performance in Port Washington, Wisconsin. According to the builder, who spoke with SpeedHunters, they used a marine engine, which is under much less stress here on land. The engine being used in the car “is nothing compared to the abuse it gets under extreme throttling in and out of the water.”

What’s even more interesting is that Mercury Racing will now offer this motor as a crate engine in the hopes of more custom car builders choosing the company’s engines in lieu of more standard motors.

Fingers crossed we see more of these engines in custom cars soon.
