HPE 1000 Super Stock Challenger

Jason Haynes from Hennessey Performance shares the details on what makes the HPE 1000 Super Stock Challenger both rare and fast.

The Dodge Demon is no longer in production, but the Super Stock Challenger has the same powertrain and is doing an admirable job of filling its shoes. And as limited and rare as the Demon was, the Super Stock is actually far less common. Finding someone who is not content with the standard 807 horsepower is also uncommon. But you know the folks at Hennessey Performance are never satisfied so they have created the HPE 1000 Super Stock Challenger that boosts the total horsepower figure to 1,035.

This week’s “Wicked Wednesday” is all about this Hennessey Performance HPE 1000 Super Stock Challenger. Jason Haynes, director of research and development at Hennessey Performance, gives us a walkaround of this awesome package. Even better he takes us along on an epic test drive around the Hennessey Performance proving grounds. The video of all this has recently been posted to the Hennessey Performance YouTube channel. Let’s take a closer look at this wicked Dodge.

Demon vs. Super Stock

Haynes begins the video by providing a comparison between the Demon and the Super Stock. The engine and transmission are the same in each car. The Demon does come with the ability to tune it to run on race gas and produce a bit more power. And of course, the Demon crate with all the drag strip goodies only comes with the Demon. The Demon is also a numbered, limited-edition car. But the Super Stock is no slouch. It shares the same 18-inch wheels and tires as the Demon in street trim. And although it is not a numbered edition, there are fewer Super Stocks on the road right now than Demons. Less than 200 Super Stocks per year have been built.

This setup turns your Super Stock into a Demon killer. Pully upgrades, a ported supercharger snout, long tube headers, high flow cats, an air induction system and a special software tune highlight some of the upgrades you get on your HPE 1000 Super Stock Challenger. The result is a dyno-proven 1,035 horsepower and 948 pound-feet of torque. This power is backed by a 2-year/24,000-mile warranty. And if you are jealous that the Demon was a numbered edition, well the HPE 1000 package includes serial numbered plaques. The folks at Hennessey build these cars right.

Enough Talk

Talk is cheap, it is time to drive. That supercharger whine is so addicting that alone is worth watching the video for. Of course, the acceleration is as intense as you would imagine. But one thing that may surprise you is according to Haynes the ride on the 18-inch wheels is actually quite supple. That combined with all the expected creature comforts mean that despite the intense performance this car is something that you could easily daily drive.

Extended Test Drive

Watch the video below to see this car being put through its paces. The thing can just launch, but it can also go around corners a little bit. And boy does it sound fantastic while doing it. On the proving grounds the HPE 1000 Super Stock Challenger is hitting 140 mph which is as fast as any other car that has been around that course. It is an animal of a machine and if you can’t afford to buy one then do yourself a favor and enjoy this free video.
