Wicked Wednesday: ‘Legal’ Dodge Charger Pickup Police Car Packs a Hellcrate Engine

Dodge Charger Pickup

This Dodge Charger pickup project car was crushed by a tree, but nothing can stop this awesome build.

Let’s get this out of the way up front. Do not impersonate a police officer. It is not cool, and you will get arrested. Now, with that said, how freaking cool is this build? There are countless Dodge car builds out there, but we don’t think any have ever followed the same path as this car. The process went something like this. A Dodge Charger used as a police car in a movie was purchased. It was cleaned up and lightly restored. Then a tree fell on it and crushed it. After that it was converted into a pickup truck and a Hellcrate engine was stuffed in it. And now it has been given the full police car treatment with flashing lights and working sirens. So, today it stands as a Dodge Charger pickup police car that is sorta legal depending on where you are and what you are doing.

This week’s “Wicked Wednesday” is all about this Dodge Charger pickup police car. It was recently featured in a video posted on the Wrench Every Day YouTube channel. In this video we get to see the details of the most recent stage of the build which is the full police car treatment. Yes, this car can get you in trouble, but heck any Dodge Charger with an 807 horsepower Hellcrate engine can get you in trouble. What we like most about this build besides the cool lights and sirens. Is the perseverance in keeping this car alive. It is something that we can all look to for inspiration when doing our own builds. For many a tree crushing your car would mark the end of it. But here it just meant a slight change of course.

Seeing a Dodge Charger police car is not that rare. However, name all of the 807 horsepower pickup trucks on sale today. Not much of a list. Now list all the Dodge Charger pickup trucks that you have ever seen. Combine those three attributes and you have a list of one and that one is what you see here. And that is what a custom build is all about. It is about making something that does not exist. You can spend $3 million buying a Ferrari Enzo and there will still be 399 other people with the same car. But if you have a Hellcrate-powered Dodge pickup truck police car you stand alone.

Police

Switches

Most of us as kids at one point or another wanted to be a cop or at the very least were fascinated by the cars. How can you not be? They were fast, chased bad guys, and had cool lights and sirens. What little kid would not love that? Hell, what adult would not love that? Now, it is tricky staying on the right side of the law when building something like this. Each state has its own laws around what is considered illegal when it come to cars like this. But as long as you pay attention to that and resist the urge to just blast the sirens and flip on the lights when someone cuts you off in traffic you should be fine.

Commitment

No project build is easy. Although thankfully most don’t involve a tree crushing your car in the middle of the process. But any build is a commitment in time, and money. And even if you have in your head a specific vision when you start out, there may be circumstances that force you to pivot. Doing just that can lead you down a path you were not expecting but might be even better than you imagined. This car here would be cool even with a standard Dodge Charger body. But the tree incident led to it becoming a pickup truck and that makes it a whole lot cooler. So, when you start your next project, have a plan in mind but don’t be afraid to adjust along the way. You might end up with something better than you ever imagined.
