Nevermore

What was a numbers matching 1968 Plymouth Road Runner is now transformed into a custom creation known as ‘Nevermore.’

What we have here is a 1968 Plymouth Road Runner that has been in the same family since 1970. And while it is a numbers matching car, this is no ordinary Road Runner. This car is has been reborn and its new name is ‘Nevermore.’ The stunning pro touring build you see here took 4 years and about 6,000-man hours to complete. A lot of work to be sure, but you will never see another Plymouth Road Runner like this. The time and the associated cost is worth it to own a one of one muscle car icon.

This week’s “Wicked Wednesday” is all about Nevermore and its owner Jamey Hyder. Hyder had this car built as a tribute to his father. His father bought the car back in 1970 and it has remained with the family ever since. When he decided he wanted to turn it into a special build he handed it over to Charlie Swanson, the owner of Charlies Custom Creations. Recently a video walkaround of the stunning end result was posted on the NotStockPhoto YouTube channel. The video itself is short but the amount of custom work is extensive. There is a lot to dig into here so let’s get started.

Nevermore

Where to Begin?

The wheels, the engine, the color, the exhaust, the everything has been customized for this car. The hood is stock, and that is about it. Everything else has been changed on this car. If you ever wondered what you could do to a Plymouth Road Runner this car can serve as your table of contents. Everything has been changed, yet it only takes a quick glance to realize that this is a Road Runner.

Personal Touches

Hyder had this car built as a tribute to his father. His dad was a caring man but also quite unique, so Hyder wanted the car to reflect that. And as such it is chock full of personal touches. The car was originally blue, but after an accident it was painted black. Today it wears stunning Voodoo Violet paint.

The engine was painted to match the wheels. That is not something you see every day. The leather on the seats is reminiscent of an old baseball glove. That is another nod to dad who used to play catch with his son.

Interior

This is likely to be one of the most unique interiors you have ever seen. It is unique to any car let alone a Road Runner. We already discussed the idea behind the seat leather, but the actual design of the seats has special meaning as well. Do we have any Star Wars fans here?

Or more specifically do we have any Millennium Falcon fans? The seats in Nevermore were designed to look like those in the Millennium Falcon. We are not sure if the Plymouth can make the Kessel run in twelve parsecs but with the bored and stroked original 383 it has plenty of power.

Motor

Speaking of power. With a build like this that obviously spared no expense Hyder could have had just about any engine he wanted dropped in the engine bay. He certainly could have gotten something a lot more modern.

But he likes the way the old engines sound and despite all the modifications he wanted to keep it numbers matching. So, under the hood you will find the original 383 motor. But it has been bored and stroked to 496 cubic inches. It sounds great and should make plenty of power.

The video is short and sweet. It provides an overview of the build, but it might make you thirsty for more. If so, you can find a lot more content on this car on the Charlies Custom Creations YouTube channel. We think that after getting a glimpse of this build you will be eager to learn about all the specifics that went into building this wicked car.
