YouTuber Reviews Bonkers Challenger Hellcat XR on Autobahn
European tuner AEC coaxes 888 horsepower out of a Challenger Hellcat and makes it seriously sketchy yet still fast.
For most, the 727 hp Challenger Hellcat is plenty of muscle. Or, you can step up to the even more powerful Challenger Hellcat Redeye, which makes 797 hp. But then there are those that want more than that, and the Demon is obviously sold out and quite expensive on the used car market. But if you happen to live in Germany, you have to rely on an importer like AEC to even obtain one of these distinctly American machines. Luckily, they’ll also be happy to add a little power to it if you wish.
The results of those efforts is this – the Challenger Hellcat XR Widebody. Producing a staggering (and even) 888 hp, it’s obviously quite the beast. And, well, suited quite nicely for the long, straight, speed limit-less German Autobahn. So when YouTuber AutoTopNL got his hands on one recently, that’s exactly where he headed to test it out. And obviously, he was immediately enamored with the beastly machine.
“It is a freaking monster. AEC has swapped the supercharger pulley for a high performance version. It also has smaller drive ratios, different intake valves, and a bigger fuel pump. They’ve taken a car that is already pretty overpowered, I’d say, and have given it more power.” AEC didn’t stop there, also adding a KW competition suspension setup in an attempt to nail down all that power. Of course, it doesn’t really do that at all.
Our reviewer takes it easy at first, which is probably smart because the roads are wet. But even with traction control on, the car does nothing but spin when he nails the go pedal. Even with the less than ideal conditions, he still manages to record some 62-124(ish) mph runs on the Autobahn. His best – just 6.08-seconds. Impressive, indeed.
Clearly, our reviewer comes away rather impressed by the Challenger Hellcat XR as a whole. “It’s a magnificent car. You think that because a Hellcat is already so extreme that it can’t really get any better. Even though it’s all over the place and even though this car is for childish people, it just brings such a big smile to my face.” And really, isn’t that what it’s all about?
