I'm Back!!!

So, I couldn't stand these GM's I kept buying, and now I'm buyin myself another Dakota. It's a 1993 with a v8(318), club cab, sunroof, 2 wheel drive and that's all I know about it so far. I am going to look at it tonight. the guy only wants $750 CDN for it. Not sure of power options or KM on the truck. And it has been sitting for a couple years apparently, but I'm gunna look underneath for rust, check the truck out, and update you all later tonight after I see it. It also doesn't run, but I think it might just be the notorious splice as the seller thinks the fuel pump is gone. We will see!!

BTW, I owned a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire GT, didn't like it so I sold it and bought a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero. I like the Alero, but it's too much GM, and not enough Dodge haha

you should buy my truck since you are from Winnipeg :P
But mine sure isnt that cheap!

Nice, I hope it is an easy fix. The spice or crank sensor or fuel pump are the most common problems. Try spraying carb cleaner or starter fluid in the intake to test the ignition. And see if the engine runs good. Press the schrader valve fuel pressure test port to see if you got pressure.

Ok, so I have looked at the truck, and it is a for sure go. Its only got 204,xxxKM on it, clean interior, aftermarket sunroof, no power accessories but it's got working a/c and cruise so that's a plus. I am picking the truck up on Monday around noon, then I'm gunna spend the day with her to see if I can't fix the starting issue.

Sauxon, I would likely buy your's if it were cheap. I can't afford anything over a grand usually. Takes too long to get the money together. The only downfall to buying this one, is it's out in Selkirk, and it's gotta be trailered home. But luckily I got a guy willing to do it for $50 for use of the trailer, and $50 for the gas to haul it to St. Norbert.

Crazy4x4RT, Checking the computer for codes is gunna be the first thing I do when I get it home, so if the crank sensor is gone, it should show a code there, right? If nothing comes up, then I'm gunna go and clean up the splice. If that doesn't work, then I guess I'll have to do the pump. Another thing is the truck hasn't ran in 2 yrs or so, so before I do too much of running the engine, I wanna stick a liter of diesel into the crank case, idle it for a half hr or so and then do an oil change, then do a tranny fluid/filter change and put some fresh gas in her

Not all bad sensors no matter what kind will throw a code. Even when you do get a code for a sensor is not always a bad sensor that is causing it.

This is very true. We shall see on Monday. I will let you all know what the problem was if and when I fix it

Hopefully its a easy fix, and the price isn't that bad, I got mine for 250. Speaking of which how is the truck on rust, fenders shot?

The box is shot, the rockers are a bit rusty but mostly surface rust, and the front fenders didn't look too bad from what I remember, which surprised me because the one I gave my GF, the front fenders rottet right out to the point where those stock fender flares fell off. But then again, all we had to do to fix that was drill holes in the fender and install new screws along the front of the fender as opposed to under.

So I am not sure what to think about this. I turn the key to the "on" position, and there's no check engine light. Turn the key on and off 3 times, still no check engine light. When I tried to start it, the RPM gauge shot to 1500 RPM. No other gauges surged light that tho. The starter is drawing insane amounts of power to turn the motor, but the truck has been sitting for 2 yrs.

What does everyone think about the lack of a check engine light and the RPM gauge surging like that? Would the ASD splice cause these symptoms? Or am I looking at a dead PCM?

Crazy4x4RT Sep 5, 2011 11:12 PM

Sounds like no power to the PCM, typical splice issue.
