Won't start
 

Our 92 Dakota suddenly started having issues within the last week. First the air conditioner fan stopped blowing, then the O/D stopped working, next we noticed the horn wouldn't blow. And then yesterday, she refused to start. The engine is cranking but won't start. I keep readingposts about problems with the fuse box but my husband is saying something about the pcm? Any advice?

The pcm doesn't control the blower, not sure about the O/D. The most likely culprit is going to be the leaky windshield washer resevoir problem. Take out the washer bottle and inspect the wiring there.

My husband said that its not the ignition and that the fuel pump is working. One more thing to add is that the cruise control also quit working within the last few days. So, the horn, heater/ac fan, O/D, cruise control all quit working within the past week and now it won't start. He says its cranking but is not getting any fire.

Hmmm... I just had a similar problem, didn't quite lose as much as you, but here goes. The O/D and the cruisenot working could very well be one of two things, it could be the speed sensor located on the transmission almost directly under the driver seat, or a bad ground in the engine bay near the driver side fender (by the fuse box) the horn is probably a broken wire (break in continuity) again by the fuse box in the engine bay, the heater/a/c motor not "fanning" could be a bad resistor (located on the pass side firewall) or again a bad wire by the fender. The no start is most likely a bad wire (theres a notorious wire splice that tends to corrode, 3 red going into 1 red, near the fuse box in the bay, you'll need to unwrap the wiring to find that out. Before you get too carried away check for engine codes, turn the key fore and aft 5 times without cranking the motor, the codes will show as flashes on the check engine light, 1 flash, pause, 2 flashes means 12 and on and on. You can find what the codes mean in a Haynes manual, chapter 6; I think theres a FAQ post with all the codes, or you can just post results here and we can crack them for ya. I highly doubt it's the PCM, sounds like a series of bad wires (I replaced 4 wire splices on my '92 for similar problems) My guess is the codes will come back with a 42 which is the Auto Shutdown relay circuit (bad relay or wiring to/from relay)

Are the directionals and other lites working ? This sounds like multi switch on column or ign. switch.

We did have problems with one of the turn signals a couple of weeks ago. My husband found a short in a wire for that.

codydakota...he did as you said and it only flashed code 55.
