318 to 360 swap. 360 upgrades?

Hey guys Ive been reading a lot on this forum, and there seems to be quite a bit of knowledge floating around, which is great because Im new to this stuff lol. Im looking into buying a dakota and making a fairly mean street and offroad machine out of it. im going to be looking at a 94 4x4 with a 318 possibly this wknd. my plan is to swap in a 360 with a few upgrades. my main concearn is the fuel injection, and how to modify it. On my bike (2001 ZX-12R) I can alter the fuel and ignition maps using a dynojet power commander. are there controllers available like that? I have an LM-1 data logger i can take off my bike to put on the truck so i can play with the air fuel ratio, but i need to know how to alter the software that controlls the fuel injection. Im thinking of cleaning up the heads, putting on a good intake, headers with dual exhaust, and maybe a good set of heads with a 408 stroker kit later on

any help is greatly appreciated
thanks!

From what I have herd, there is not much you can do with the factory ecm. Look at the F.A.S.T. They have what you will need. Another option is going old school carb but this requires making your own wiring harness and a good egnition system from MSD and it is little less than half the price.

Well with a 94 it is OBD1 wich is the older computer system that almost nobody(aftermarket) wants to tuch. So we are verry limited. Below is copied from FAQ2.

Computer Reprogramers
There are none anymore for the Dodge OBD1, but you can get get a multi-processor-driven signal manipulator that goes inline between your engine and ECU.

Petersen's 4Wheel & Off-Road Magizine did an artical on it.

The best way to make power from our fuel injection is high output coil wires plugs cap and rotor. higher rate fuel injectors. Mopar high performance computer. Larger throttle body. More open intake manifold (Kegger mod) or M1 intake. headers open exhaust system high per. cat and muffler. tranny shift kit. You can change rear end gears. you can get cams 1.7 rockers stroker kits like you menchend. bore out engine deck down heads and block. supercharger. nitrous. turbo.

Lots more just up to you what you want to spend.

The 5.9 swap will be an easy one.

thanks guys. took the truck for a test drive tonight and i think im getting it sunday. its the extended cab version.
the power commander on my bike plugs inline, and actually doest reflash the computer, so ill check out that chip. im familiar with the concept.
a supercharger would be nice later on, the old school roots style sticking up out of the hood. i would like to try something like that. I have nitrous on my bike and its very addicting. trouble is i have to fill the bottle for every 1/4 mile blast.
im not opposed to loosing the efi for a carb. what ever is simple and cost effective, but i dont really have the cash for dyno sessions, and i dont want to loose any functions that i need for the street. hmmm maybe its time i tried a megasquirt project. I have the data logger to tune with....

That makes me happy. Both of my hotrods are old.

thats great if you just do basic stuff, but what if you have a more custom setup? ive been doing quite a bit of reading about the megasquirt efi controller. i think im going to go for the MS2 and get rid of the stock computer

Do you have one? Those look like its just a cuple of risitors. And for $300 I'm not to sure if its worth it?

1shotjake 10-26-2008 07:58 PM

no don't have one, and for what it does I don't think its worth 300 either. Actually i'm sure you could probably make one just as easily. The biggest issue i think would be searching through wire harness.
