Default changing diff fluids...need to know thursday at the absolute latests-thanks

my dakota needs fluid changes.... how much will i need? im pretty sure its a 9.25 or 8.25 rear end, ive got the 318 so id assume i have the largest diff's that the dakotas got. ive got 3.92 gears if that makes a difference....

also ive heard some people talk about filling up to the bottom of the plug is bad? ive always filled it up till its almost coming out, whats your thoughts?

im switchin to synthetic, the truck has regular gear oil in it right now... im curious because not all the old fluid is going to come out so there will be some regular mixed with the new synthetic... im assuming this will be ok?

now, what do you suggest i use? i was looking at royal purple but its damn expensive....

We have fuild capasitys under the FAQ. For 8-1/4" 2.1L . There were not 9.25 axles on our trucks. The book says 140w. If you got a LSD you will need to add in some additive. Rolyal Purple would be sweet. I just got some name brand like synthetic valvoline or something. Its okay with todays synthetics its okay to mix them in with some nonsythetics.

i got some mobil1 synthetic 75w140 in mine. it is expensive but it has the LS additive already in it. valvoline would be good too, i have started using the valvoline synpower engine oil in mine instead of mobil...cheaper and suppossed to be better.
