ok i have a 1989 4x4 dodge dakota i want to know if the truck would run and sound good if i ran a straight pipe threw the cat converter i curently have a old clogged cat on there and a 22" cherry bomb glass pack and of course stock headers its a 3.9l v6 or any suggestions would be helpful but i know i want it loud and i want it to run as proud as i can make it.
Does your state have vehicle inspection that prevent you from removing the cat completely and putting in a peice of straight pipe? That would be best for sound. If you put a pipe through the cat, it will have a hollow sound unless you filled the empty cat with some kind of heat resistant foam or something.
my state does have restriction where you are suppossed to have a cat on your truck.car but i have a cousin that takes care of that 4 me and yeah iwould fill the cat with something the thing i need to know is what the pipe on the side is for?
It goes to the smog/air pump. It pumps fresh air into the exhaust system to delude the emission gases. For inspection or emission testing you will need to make it look like it is still active.
