how do i remove and install fuel pump on 1987 dakota W/3.9 v6

I'm not to familiar with the early years but your fuel pump should be on the engine block. Just unbolt and replace.

hey just did mine if it like my 89 it in the tank u have to drop the tank also the leads are sodered on to the pump i just cut and repaced mine wile uer in thear u should replace the straner fuel lines and filter lines to it as well it only 15 psi so any line will work the sizes are 1/4 5/16 2' should be good on a 4wd u have to drop the skid plate then the tank straps after thal thear is a hose clamp that holds the asembly in dont forget the filer and vent(thears two 1 to the filler and 1 to the frame)

i remember the days when you replaced those mechanical pumps for 10 bucks in 10 minutes. i know the 87 has a carb on it (only year) not 100% on it but i think your right crazy. and everyone wonders why i want an old school dak for off road (not racing).
