Prepping for repair. looking for pointers
Howdy everyone!
My weekend is coming up on tuesday and wednesday and i want to show everyone my plan and ask what i should do.
Ok, to start, the truck wont run and I have narrowed it down to a fuel pump issue (suspected)
First thing i want to do is pull the connector and check for power to the pump. How does this plug come off?
Does anyone know where i can find a layout of the pins to see what i should be testing with a multimeter?
Also I was looking at the tank and I noticed the protective "boot" if you will that is around the fill line is damaged:
Has anyone had success in replacing this boot?
I know when doing the fuel pump i should have to relieve pressure in the fuel lines before pulling the line off the pump. if the truck wont start do i still need to relieve the pressure? I feel like I probably dont have to considering the pump isn't creating pressure but i want to make sure so i dont screw something up! :-O
I am thinking of doing shocks in the back while i have the bed off since it is easy access so I will update if i decide to go that route as well.
Thanks for the info everyone!

Absolutely yes, and it doesn't make any noise which is why i am suspecting the fuel pump. However, if it is an electrical issue the pump wouldn't make any noise either since it has no power. I like to try and be thorough before i drop cash on expensive parts.
I am thinking it's probably the pump since I don't hear any priming.
Thanks!

first off did you swap the asd and fuel pump relays to see if it was a bad relay? and if you want to make sure there is no pressure in the fuel lines there is a pressure release valve on the left fuel rail under the hood. if minimal fuel comes out then there is no pressure. and if your gas guage isn't working now would be a good time to fix it
***edit***
just read about the shocks. yeah now would be a good time to do that too since its a nut and bolt set up. just make sure you have an impact gun or breaker bar and lots of nut buster...

Part # for the seal is 5217578, Mopar Parts America shows it's still available, can't tell you how easy it'll be to replace though.
IIRC you should have 12V between the dark green with a black tracer and either of the black wires.

i broke 1 clips when i took mine off i ziptied it back on and it's been fine ever since. to get teh pump off the tank first you have to relieve the fuel pressure in the lines(saftey first) then pull the connectors and lines off the pump( ithink all the fuel hoses can only go on 1 way so they can't get mixed up) and then unscrew the cap around the pump and pull the pump off.

Part recommendation
Hi everyone!
I appreciate all the great info supplied so far! I am wondering if anyone has some recommendations on what is a good brand for a fuel pump? I have seen a few brands like airtex, delphi and napa. The airtex is $192, the NAPA is $206 and the Delphi is about $215.
The Airtex and NAPA i can get locally, the Delphi would need to be ordered.
Thanks!
