'92 won't start
Hi all, I just purchased a '92 Dodge Dakota through a private sale on Saturday. The truck worked fine when I got it, it drove the 3 hrs to get home. I noticed when I was going up hill (accelerating) the vent would turn off and defrost would come on, as soon as I'd slow back down the vent would work again. Any thoughts on this?
Yesterday I was moving the truck so I could have it to go to work today... it started fine at first. The truck wouldn't start when I had the driver's door open.. when I shut it it started no problem. When I was leaving for work this morning, the truck wouldn't start. I had to open and shut the door 5 times before it started. Just curious if anyone had any thoughts on this and what it might be. |
Welcome to DodgeForum!!
First of all, I guarentee it doesn't have anything to do with the position of the door! It sounds to me like slamming the door may jar some bad wires that have iffy connections. There are a few possibilites of what can cause this, but first of all, when you say won't start, what do you mean? Are you saying you turn the key and nothing happens, or you turn the key and the engine turns over and over but never fires.... can you please be more descriptive of the problem? |
This is going to sound like a total woman answer and i'm sorry :). it just clicks.. it won't turn over.. the starter was just replaced.. the lights do come on.

next time it does it tap on the starter with a tire iron or broom stick a few times and try it. dont slam the door. if that works then is the starter..
|
also check the terminals on the battery, a loose connection can cause the starter to not fully power and the lights still come on.

Welcome to the Forum. We also have a '92, just brought it home a couple of weeks ago. Like Shadow says, make sure the connections on the battery are clean and also the one on the starter.
