As some of you may know, the transfercase took a crap in my Dakota, slipping and popping, ect. Jeep NP231s are a dime a dozen. I assume I can use the Jeep planetary in my transfercase with my factory input and outputs. Is my assumption correct?

From my recollection there are a few (read: very few) that had longer gears, and were cut a bit different, but if your swapping out the entire assembly, then you should be fine.
Well I found a guy on craigslist that has a box full of NP231 parts from his jeep when he cracked the case, $10. Hopefully it should get mine up and running again.
I just bought a rebuild kit for mine from the parts house; while doing some research on the NP231D versus others it became apparent that the dodge model may also have a wider chain. not sure how if this will affect you, but I thought it might be nice to know.
Is the turbo to blame for its death? $10 is not bad at all, good luck.
That and my overall abusive nature towards my vehicles Not to mention it's got 250,000 miles on it.

Yeah I've read that, guess I'll find out when I open it up what needs to be changed.
So True! And now that I am thinking about it there was also something about a 24 mm input bearing as well. I think after doing some google searches I was looking at parts from Polyperformance and they seemed to have lots of options for what was needed in my kit. I think that they were the ones differentiating between the different models specifically.
It may also have been eastcoastgearsupply.com that had the info.
Even if I'm forced to use the Jeep chain it's not a big deal, I don't use 4x4 much and don't pound on it when I need it anyways. I'm guessing my problem is in the planetaries and shift forks.
The output shaft housing is also different. My t-case took a crap last year. Rebuilt is this year. Ended up buying a brand new chain, pump, fork and a couple of other things.
