Exhaust upgrade (3")

I read in multiple locations that the 92-93 exhaust manifolds, y-pipe, and exhaust is bigger than 94 and up. That is true and I have the pictures to show the differences.

On the 92-93 exhaust, after the muffler, it shrinks down to 2 1/2". The junk yard cut out the cat destroying the exhaust so I didn't bother getting the whole exhaust. I got the important parts, the manifolds and the y-pipe. I looked inside the y-pipe and there was some serious lack of quality control on assembling the y-pipe. I had to get in the pipe and grind out all the extra metal inhibiting flow.

The cheapest 3" exhaust I could find was $380. So I decided to build my own. I bought 3-90* and 3-45* mandrel bends, a 10' stick of 3" pipe, and a Flowmaster 50 series muffler. I spent about $250. It took me about a day and a half to make but that included swapping manifolds, grinding the crap out of the y-pipe, and staring at the y-pipe trying to figure out the best way to adapt the 3" pipe.

The factory Chrysler exhaust isn't a true 3".

I tapped a ring onto the exhaust and welded that to the factory pipe.

Then I welded on the straight pipe. It just made it easier. I also used the factory hangers.

I love the sound of this exhaust. It's a little loud when you get on it but it's quite (low pitch rumble) at idle and at cruise on the highway.

Heck ya thats what I'm talking about. Got 93 so I got the good exhaust and the good return injection. Custom 3in cat back. Headers are still better than the stock 93 exhaust manifolds. But ya I know its a shop truck.

At some point I'd like to get some headers. I've seen a couple of sets pop up on Craig's list for $150. I'm just worried about the horror stories I've heard about headers blowing gaskets. I like the durability of the cast manifolds.

I like side exits, for when going thru tunnels, or underpasses, or down a street with a good solid wall on that side of the truck. Lower the windows and make some noise !!!!

I've been driving around with the rear vent windows open so I can here the exhaust better. This time of year is perfect for that.

Leaving before it gets too hot. I can't blame you there. This past summer was brutal with no rain.

Are you into drag racing? My friends and I race our turbo Mopar cars out at Speed World in Wittmann, just west of Surprise.

Not into racing, but got a Wisconsin buddy who is, he is a recently retired EMT/Fireman, comes down every spring to cruise the junkyards. He buys a trailer in OK on the way down, goes home a month or so later loaded to the gunwales, via Las Vegas Mopars at the Strip.....
We should get together while he is down, he is a walking encyclopedia of things Mopar...
